The primeval union or intercourse between ancestors is depicted in sculptural vessels in a number of pre-Columbian styles from northern and southern Peru, both on the coast and in the highlands. The configuration of the scene is very similar in all cases, and in the majority the greatest attention to detail is given to the headdresses worn by men and the adornments on the women’s bodies.
